Dual input allows the subwoofer an extra sensitivity adjustment. Normally, it would be enough to use a mono LFE subwoofer signal from its processor. If you have a processor with very low output so you can use a Y-splitter. By using both inputs with the same mono signal doubles the subwoofer sensitivity.

Why does my subwoofer have left and right inputs?

Since the subwoofer is responsible for low bass tones (aka its sole purpose), it requires a transmitter of low-frequency audio waves. The left and right channels are combined in an LFE cable to allow for a singular cable to evenly disperse the signals to the subwoofer.

Why do subs have 2 RCA inputs?

A receiver with L+R subwoofer outputs does not, so both outputs need to be connected to the sub. Well, receivers like that are pretty rare. The dual inputs are mainly there for connecting the R/L pre-outs of a 2-channel pre-amp or pre-out equipped 2-channel stereo receiver.

How do you hook up a subwoofer with two inputs?

if the sub has two inputs you can either just use one input or use a Y-splitter and use both. using both will add 3db to the input signal. if you were to run dual subs with two inputs on each sub you'd need a bunch of wires and a bunch of Y-splitters.

Why do amps have 2 inputs?

Your amp will sum the two channels information into one. One of the reasons for the L/R inputs is your amp also has a internal crossover that allows you to output the high pass signal to another amp. Best explanation right here.

Why do some subwoofers have speaker outputs?

Check the specifications on your receiver. If you are using a more recent receiver, you will likely find a dedicated subwoofer output. This is meant to connect the subwoofer and streamline the LFE audio signal geared specifically for the subwoofer's bass emissions.

Does a subwoofer need both RCA cables?

In order to hook up a powered subwoofer properly, an RCA "splitter" cable ("Y" cable) is not needed. Any single, standard RCA or subwoofer cable should do just fine. However, if the sub is exhibiting a hum with the RCA/sub cable plugged into it, then maybe try using a "shielded" subwoofer cable.

Should you use LFE on subwoofer?

Subwoofers are designed purposely for emitting low-frequency sounds. LFE channels transmit the lowest frequencies in audio productions. Thus, when you use the LFE channel on your subwoofer, you get the best low-frequency sound.

Is a subwoofer an input or output?

Most, but not all, subwoofers have these inputs; they get connected using speaker cables to the same speaker output jacks on your receiver or amplifier that are also hooked up to your speakers.
